Mustangs overcoming bumps in the road – Houston Chronicle

Memorial boys hoopsters battling for postseason life The Memorial boys basketball team is in the middle of the pack in District 18-6A, but head coach Dave Lay is convinced the Mustangs can still make a push for the Class 6A playoffs. Memorial, 9-14 overall and 2-4 in league play entering the week, will host Aldine Nimitz at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29. Memorial struggled in last week’s 79-47 loss to Davis, not surprising when considering the Mustangs’ youth and inexperience. The 6-3 Collins, the starting point guard, has been equally proficient, putting up 14 points and three assists while emerging as one of Memorial’s go-to performers. Lay realizes Memorial probably isn’t as athletic as its Aldine ISD foes, but that hasn’t stopped the Mustangs in the past.
